Vacation Trail
Version 1.0 โข Morrow to Adventure
No account required โข No student profile required โข Local browser save only
PLEASE READ BEFORE ENTERING. Vacation Trail 1.0 is a browser-based educational/family travel game. This notice is written for a privacy-minimizing deployment and is not a certification, legal opinion, or substitute for review by your school district, counsel, privacy officer, or other responsible authority.
Vacation Trail is designed to operate as a single HTML application without an account, advertising profile, analytics SDK, social network, or remote student database. The game does not require a student's real name, email address, phone number, home address, date of birth, photograph, voice, location, student ID, grades, education records, or other direct personal identifier to play. Save codes and preferences are stored locally in the browser when those features are used. Do not enter personally identifying or education-record information into the game.
For users under 13, the application is designed not to knowingly collect or maintain personal information online for behavioral advertising or unrelated profiling. The game should not request a child's personal information. A parent/guardian or school should supervise use where appropriate. If this deployment is changed to collect personal information, use third-party services, advertising, accounts, geolocation, messaging, uploads, or persistent server-side profiles, this notice is no longer sufficient by itself and the operator must conduct an appropriate COPPA/privacy review and implement any required notices, parental-consent processes, security, retention, and deletion controls.
Vacation Trail is intentionally designed not to collect or store education records. FERPA obligations generally attach to education records maintained by an educational agency or institution, and schools/districts remain responsible for determining whether an educational technology service is approved and how any student information is handled. If a district uses this application with education records or personally identifiable student information, the district/operator should complete its own FERPA review, vendor review, data-security review, direct-control requirements, and applicable contract/data-agreement requirements before deployment.
For an Ohio educational deployment, the operator intends to follow applicable federal and Ohio privacy, student-record confidentiality, accessibility, consumer-protection, public-school technology, and district-policy requirements that apply to the actual operator and use case. Nothing in these terms overrides Ohio Revised Code, federal law, a school/district policy, an IEP/504 accommodation, or a legally required parental or student right. Schools should apply their own acceptable-use, records-retention, accessibility, cybersecurity, procurement, and student-data policies.
The design is intended to align with relevant National Standards for Quality Online Learning principles, including clearly stated learner expectations, accessibility/usability, purposeful technology, privacy protection, and appropriate review of technology tools. This does not mean NSQOL has certified, endorsed, approved, or audited Vacation Trail.
The application may use browser local storage for gameplay state, save codes, font-size settings, theme settings, and acceptance state. Local storage is not a school records system. Clearing browser storage may erase saved game information. No guarantee is made that local browser storage will persist. The operator should not treat a local save code as an encrypted security credential.
Vacation Trail is entertainment/educational software, not a navigation service, emergency service, financial service, or substitute for adult supervision. Road-trip events are fictionalized game content. Estimated fuel, attraction, hotel, Buc-ee's, and other prices are for gameplay only and are not promises of actual availability or pricing.
Nintendo, Nintendo Switch, Buc-ee's, destination attractions, hotels, and other referenced names are third-party names/trademarks where applicable. Vacation Trail is not represented as an official Nintendo, Buc-ee's, NSQOL, Ohio Department of Education and Workforce, or destination-owner product unless separately authorized.
By selecting Accept, you agree to use Vacation Trail lawfully and appropriately; not to attempt to disrupt, reverse engineer, abuse, or attack the hosting service; not to submit personal or confidential student information; and to follow applicable school, district, family, and site rules. The software is provided on an โas-isโ basis for this deployment, subject to applicable law. The operator may update these terms when the application changes. If you do not agree, select Leave Site.
This display is an in-app compliance-oriented notice. It does not itself create FERPA status, establish parental consent where law requires a particular form of consent, make a private website a school official, or guarantee compliance with every law in every deployment. Schools and operators must determine their actual legal obligations based on who operates the site, what information is processed, whether the service is used as part of a school program, and what integrations are enabled.
